Since 2009, IICS Patik Project students have been working with some of the women at Eskice, a rural village about ten minutes from Marmara campus. The women knit “patik” or traditional slipper-socks. Our students help raise the money to provide the knitting yarn, which we buy a few times a year from the Spice Bazaar. We then find ways to sell the slippers and return all the proceeds to the individual women.
The money we help raise goes towards such necessities as school uniforms and heating fuel for the local school.
